Most traders only look at the challenge price. The true cost includes reset fees, monthly data fees, and the statistical cost of failed attempts.
Our calculator factors in pass rates and average resets to show what you'll really pay to get funded.

True Cost = Evaluation Fee (after promo if applied) + Activation Fee. This is the minimum amount you will pay to get funded assuming you pass on your first attempt.
Promo codes are exclusive to PropFirm Key and verified regularly. Prices may change — always check the firm's website before purchasing.
We analyze the challenge fee, any monthly data fees, and the activation fee for each firm.
Using real pass rate data, we calculate the expected number of attempts needed to pass.
Reset fees (if applicable) are multiplied by the expected number of failed attempts.
The total gives you the true expected cost to get a funded account with each firm.
The "true cost" of a prop firm challenge goes far beyond the initial evaluation fee you see on the pricing page. It represents the total expected expenditure a trader will incur before successfully obtaining a funded account. This includes the challenge fee itself, any activation or data fees charged upon passing, reset fees for failed attempts, and the opportunity cost of time spent in the evaluation process. Many traders focus solely on the sticker price when comparing prop firms, but this narrow view can lead to significantly underestimating the real financial commitment required. A $200 challenge with a 10% pass rate will ultimately cost most traders far more than a $400 challenge with a 40% pass rate.
Understanding true cost matters because it directly impacts your break-even point as a funded trader. If you spend $2,000 across multiple attempts before getting funded, you need to earn that back from your profit split before you see any net return. For traders operating with limited capital, this distinction can mean the difference between building a sustainable trading career and running out of funds before ever reaching a payout. The true cost perspective also reveals which firms offer genuinely competitive pricing versus those that rely on low headline prices to attract traders who will likely need several attempts to pass. Informed traders who factor in realistic pass rates make better decisions about where to allocate their capital.
Our calculator uses a data-driven methodology to estimate true cost. We start with the base challenge price (after any active promo code discount), then add the activation fee that many firms charge when you pass. Next, we factor in the statistical probability of passing on any given attempt. For a challenge with a 15% pass rate, the average trader will need roughly 6.7 attempts to pass. Each failed attempt incurs the reset fee (or full challenge fee if no reset option exists). We multiply these expected failures by the reset cost and add it to the initial fee and activation cost. The result is a realistic projection of what getting funded will actually cost, not just what the firm advertises on its pricing page.
Analysis of our dataset reveals several key patterns. First, the cheapest challenge fee rarely translates to the lowest true cost — firms with higher pass rates or lower activation fees often come out ahead despite higher upfront pricing. Second, promo codes can dramatically shift the ranking: a 20% discount applied to every attempt compounds significantly over multiple tries. Third, account size matters more than you might think. Larger accounts often have better cost-to-capital ratios, meaning the true cost per dollar of funded capital decreases as you scale up. Finally, firms offering free retries or reduced reset fees tend to have substantially lower true costs, even when their base prices appear higher than competitors.
